In mid-May, VISION: ANHOLT. ALL YEAR ROUND was presented at a meeting attended by Anholt Port A/S, among others. The meeting was also attended by three of the island's local associations: Anholt Borgerforening, Anholt Erhverv and Anholt Grundejerforening - as well as Norddjurs Municipality. The vision should be seen as a step towards securing Anholt's future.
The population of Anholt has been steadily declining over the years and is currently down to around 140 permanent residents. This is in stark contrast to the busiest summer weeks, when the number of tourists reaches close to six thousand people. Such an increase in the number of people on the island places great demands on flexibility and infrastructure, and requires a focus on ensuring that Anholt does not 'grow' beyond what the island can support.
"We have a great responsibility
to develop the port of Anholt
into a modern and attractive port"
Kirsten H. Schmidt
director Anholt Harbour A/S
In this light, Anholt harbor is an important and necessary part of the island's infrastructure. Both in the daily life of the locals, but also for everyone else who wants to visit Anholt. The pleasure boats and especially the Anholt ferry are dependent on good harbour conditions, which makes the harbour an important player in realizing the vision of Anholt.
"We have a great responsibility to develop the port on Anholt into a modern and attractive port. This ranges from the locals' need for daily ferry calls, which is necessary to maintain a local community on the island, to being an attractive port where tourists can dock their boats and visit the island's restaurants and attractions. That's why we have invested heavily in recent years to improve conditions. Most recently with the construction of new bridges, which create even better conditions for visitors," says Kirsten H. Schmidt, CEO of Anholt Harbour A/S, and emphasizes that they are very positive about the initiative and the wishes in VISION: ANHOLT. ALL YEAR ROUND.
