Anholt desert awarded

loading="lazy"

Realdania has designated Anholt's Desert as one of the most beautiful natural attractions in Denmark. Therefore, the nature area is now included in the inspiration guide 'Smutturen', which tells about 50 unique Danish nature areas. The 50 sites were selected from 580 who competed to be included in the fine company.

The desert has a nature that is not experienced anywhere else in Denmark.

The area consists of dune and heath landscapes, and Anholt is so far out to sea that the supply of nutrients is very small. As a result, slow-growing and extremely rare plants such as lichen can be found in the desert.

The area is Northern Europe's largest low moor and is home to many different species, such as reindeer lichen.
